Almost every week I’m asked where I get my ideas from and what inspires me, so I’m going to share my favourite sources to get the creative juices flowing!
I first became a fan of Amara last year when I was shortlisted in their interior blog awards – such an honour! They’ve got an excellent Home Inspiration section on their website which shows you décor inspiration by room or trend, as well as home tours of some of the best interior influencers.
The best part is that you can shop the look just by clicking on the photo which will show you the items featured and take you straight to them – there’s nothing more frustrating than falling in love with an item on a room setup without being able to find it to buy it!

I’m a big fan of the show home style so they are always one of my go-to inspiration sources! I either search for well known home builders such as Taylor Wimpey, Barratt Homes or Cala Homes to browse their entire selections or search on sites like RightMove for new builds for lots of inspiring photos.
These houses are often designed by experienced interior designers so are great for inspiring complimenting colour palettes, layouts and accessories.
This has been one of my more recent addictions! Pinterest is very clever at finding lots of related images for keywords and also for suggesting photos that might appeal to you based on other photos you’ve saved/viewed.
This inspired our recent outdoor kitchen project and we’ve been using it a lot to figure out the layout of the project, as well as how others have constructed it – there have often been blog posts linked to the photos that explain how they were created, so helpful for the DIY fan!
There are so many home magazines out there to suit your style and budget, they’re always full of great home décor ideas and often contain other sections like DIY, recipes and craft projects, so you get more than just home inspiration from them!
My personal favourites are magazines like Style at Home, Home Style and My Home – they tend to be full of high street and more affordable items rather than higher end pieces which suits my style better.
Out and About
I’m always inspired when I go away, either on holiday or out for the day, as I find myself looking at the layout of hotel bedrooms, bathrooms, lobby areas or even their outdoor landscaping!
Moon Chairs – Link
Sometimes the smallest feature can stand out and inspire new décor – such as moon chairs on holiday in Mexico meant that I dreamed of having them in my own garden to have a piece of Mexico at home or artificial yucca plants in the hotel lobby inspired the plants I’ve just put on my own patio.
I spend a lot of time on Instagram, as you can imagine, and find lots of inspiration on there! There are now so many home accounts on Instagram that it’s hard not to find at least one that you love the look of.
Often items online or in shops can look quite flat without knowing how they would look styled, but seeing the same item styled in someone’s home can help you picture exactly how it would look and where it could go. I always find myself scouring online to find an item in “real life” before purchasing it – they don’t always look the same as the computerised images.
Ideal Home Show
We try to attend the Ideal Home Show every year for décor inspiration and at Christmas for festive décor ideas. It’s always a great day out, with lots of different foods to try and sections for fashion and beauty, as well as my favourite part: the show homes in the centre of the space!
There’s always ample décor inspiration to take in and lots of goodies on offer. Money Saving Expert normally offers a free ticket code for these shows too, so keep an eye out for those.
Lots of love
